Coaching Journey
I have always been an active person, and I love various types of movement. After college, where I studied sociology and psychology, I went on to became a professional climbing, backpacking and paddling guide and instructor with Outward Bound. I worked for the NC Outward Bound School for 10+ years in the field as an instructor and as a program manager between 2000-2011. Over those years, I also traveled and rock-climbed extensively across the USA, Europe, and South America.
During my tenure as an outdoor professional, I sustained several overuse injuries. It was then that I knew I needed to make strength training a more regular part of my movement routine. I discovered CrossFit, and through it, strength sports. I became fascinated with the raw yet highly technical disciplines of Olympic weightlifting and powerlifting, and while working as a CrossFit coach, pursued further education and competitive opportunities in these disciplines. I combined this with my pursuit of an education in massage and bodywork therapy as a vehicle for recovery and healing.
In 2016, I partnered with Zach Greenwald and Kyle Clechenko to open Strength Ratio, a strength and conditioning and sport performance coaching company focused on empowering clients through sustainable training. Since then, I have not only coached strength sport athletes, but I have also coached numerous endurance athletes, functional fitness athletes, outdoor athletes, those interested in general strength and conditioning, those recovering from injury, and everyone in between.
I’ve devoted myself to continued growth both as an athlete and a coach, and I've committed myself to helping people establish an affirming, fulfilling movement practices that complement and enhance their lives.
